Espoo Ciné International Film Festival brings a selection of new gems of European cinema to theatres in the Metropolitan area on August 23–29, 2021. Junior Ciné, the film festival for children and young people, will be organised alongside Espoo Ciné on August 23–27.
This year, Espoo Ciné will be launching the festival's titular award, worth 1000 €. The Espoo Ciné Award will be presented to a person or a party that has significantly advanced Finnish film culture toward a diversely European standpoint.
In its first year, the receiver of the award will be selected by a Jury consisting of the Espoo Ciné board members. The award can be given to a filmmaker, distributor, journalist, cinema manager or another professional working in the field of film culture.
In collaboration with Filmiaura, Espoo Ciné will present a series of Jussi Award nominees before the Jussi Gala that will take place in the fall. "During these challenging times, it is of particular importance to our festival to offer domestic films spots on the screen, as well as present the audience with opportunities to see the best of Finnish film in the cinemas," says the festival's Head of Programming Mickael Suominen.
The festival programme will be published on Tuesday, August 10. Ticket sales will start on the following day. The festival venues are Kino Tapiola, Espoo Cultural Centre, Finnkino Sello, Finnkino Omena and Cinema Orion.
