Young man Luc travels to Paris to take the examination for a school. He has a brief relationship with Djemila. Subsequently, he goes back to his rural hometown, where he lives with his father. Luc sleeps with his former girlfriend Geneviève. He moves to Paris and falls in love with another woman Betsy. The Salt of Tears, aesthetically and narratively, is the expansion of Garrel’s cinematic world to the ultimate point of encountering with the naked truth about life, death and fatal relationships. The ending of the film is one of the most touching moments of cinema in recent years.
