Claude Lelouch’s beloved classic A Man and a Woman (1966) ended with the lovers’ embrace. The bliss was not long lasting, and now former racing car driver Jean-Louis recalls her beautiful Anne in a nursing home. Jean-Louis’s son Antoine sets off seeking Anne, and soon the old couple and an old Citroën 2CV are heading to Deauville, where it all started once upon a time. Or are they? The film follows the logic of oblivion and daydreams. The romantic insecurities are updated to a new era and phase of life with humour and warmth. Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant are as charismatic as ever, but the film also features the original child actors – now middle-aged.
