Outdoor Screening: U2 — Rattle and Hum

This year's outdoor screening, taking place in the dimming summer night free of charge, is Phil Joanou's U2-documentary Rattle and Hum from 1988. The concert film follows the Irish band, basking in the success of their then recent The Joshua Tree album, on their North American tour. In their intense concerts U2 plays some of their biggest hits to date.

The camera also captures the band offstage, from the backstage to the streets of Harlem and Memphis. From his footage, Jouanou builds a stylishly rugged rock portrait with partly black and white images. The film is also an engaging peak into rock history, and is sure to entertain on top of offering a chance to reminiscence on U2's Finnish concerts taking place earlier in August.
