White Ribbon, The
The severe and masterly Austrian filmmaker examines the roots of fascism with his latest film, which won the Palme d'Or in Cannes in May. The name of the film, "The White Ribbon", refers to endeavours to remain pure. In Haneke's hands, however, the Protestant wow of chastity extends into a startling metaphor of the fundamental structures of evil.
