In spring 1953, a young Swedish-Finnish writer, film critic and cinematographer Jörn Donner and a promising Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman met in Helsinki. This was a beginning of 60-year-long friendship. Donner released two books about Bergman and produced one of Bergman’s films. Fanny och Alexander (1984) won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Memory of Ingmar Bergman composed of unpublished excerpts from two interviews. For this documentary Donner travelled to Stockholm and Fårö with his son Rafael.
