East Berlin, in the early autumn of 1989. The Powileit family celebrate the 90th birthday of Wilhelm, a former resistance fighter and returned expatriate. No one suspects that he fled to West Germany just a few days ago… The birthday celebrations turn into a tragicomical moment of political and personal breakdown.
